3 Drugstore Palettes You Need In Your Life

Monday, 9 May 2016

For today's post I thought I would share with all my fellow make up lovers my 3 favourite drugstore eye shadow palettes. Eye shadow palettes are like 'my thing' and I have enough eye shadows to last me three life times. Whilst I love high end palettes, they're not really budget friendly, where as these three palettes are very affordable without comprising on the quality! These are all under £10 and you can get them from your local Superdrug or on the Make Up Revolution website.

Make Up Revolution - Ultra 32 Shade Eyeshadow Palette Flawless | £8

This has to be one of the most stunning and versatile palettes to ever exist. It has the perfect combination of matte shades, shimmer shades and intense foil shimmery shades. The lighter matte and shimmer shades do lack in pigment and can be almost chalky, but I find when applied to the lid with the right primer, this isn't a problem. Make Up Revolution honestly do some of the best eye shadows out there, especially at the drugstore. These shadows are so soft and buttery to apply, along with having amazing pigmentation.

Below I have swatched the entire palette, so you can see for yourself what each shade looks like! I didn't use a primer with these swatches.

Make Up Revolution - New-trals vs Neutrals Palette | £6.99

Yup another Make Up Revolution palette... but it is more proof that they do the best affordable eye shadow palettes!

You may already know that I absolutely adore warm toned, orangey and copper shades. I find that these shades really make my blue eyes pop and stand out.  This palette has the perfect combination of neutral matte and shimmer shades, and also beautiful warm toned shades. You can see from the swatches below just how pigmented these are. They also blend beautifully and have minimum fall out.

I ♡ Makeup - I Heart Chocolate Pink Fizz | £7.99

Last but not least is this beautiful girly palette from I Heart Make Up. The packaging is very similar to the Too Faced chocolate palettes, and they even smell similar!

This palette has 3 matte shades and 13 shimmery shades. The shimmery shades in particular are very pigmented and the matte shades blend well so work perfectly in the crease. I personally feel that this palette has a great range of neutral shades and is ideal to have as an every day eye shadow palette! All of the shades have been swatched below.

NYX Contour Palette | Swatches and Review

Monday, 2 May 2016

I'm always on the lookout for affordable, cruelty free contour palettes to try out, so I went into my local Boots and picked up this NYX Contour Palette. I've wanted to get this for a while but for some reason I've always held back from buying it online. Being able to see it actually in person confirmed  that yes it was definitely worth spending £18 on!

It's of course more expensive than your average drugstore contour palette, for example the Make Up Revolution palette is only £8. So if you wanted a more budget friendly contour palette then I would definitely recommend the Make Up Revolution one instead. They are very similar in terms of shades, pigmentation and blend-ability.

The product itself is quite large so it takes up a fair bit of room, but also has the added bonus of a clear lid so you can easily see the shades. NYX have also made this palette re-fill friendly, so when you do run out you can easily pop the shade out and replace it. Although I'm not sure where you can buy the re-fills from in the UK....

The above swatches show the 'highlight' shades, and as you can see they are very light. If you have pale skin like myself then this is great as it can sometimes be difficult to find a highlight shade light enough for under the eyes etc.
The frosted highlighter looks beautiful on and is very pigmented without looking too unnatural. I don't think I'll get too much use out of the 'banana' coloured shades though.

The four contour shades are very pigmented and blend really well. I don't think I'll get much use of the darker shade on the far right and the warmer shade on the left, but the two shades in the middle work really well for my skin tone!

The video below shows me using this palette for the first time! Since then I have of course used it more, but I still feel first impressions are important :)

April Favourites

Friday, 29 April 2016

Another month means another favourites post!
I have quite a lot of products that I've loved this month and I have used these nearly every day.

Eyebrows

My most used and loved eyebrow products this month have been the Freedom Duo Brow Powder in medium brown and the NYX Micro Brow Pencil in ash brown.
I've been trying to achieve a more natural look with my brows this month and these two products have been the best at helping me do that. They also aren't warm toned at all, so it matches my natural hair colour really well.

Blush

I've been loving pale, baby pink blushers recently and these two have been my favourite.
On the left is the Natural Collection blush in the shade pink cloud, which is a beautiful light pink peachy matte shade. On the right is a baked blusher from Make Up Revolution in the shade bang bang you're dead. This blush is cool toned, very light pink and has a hint of shimmer. They both achieve a natural, girly look which is perfect for spring.

Lips

I don't usually wear lip glosses that much but I have found myself drawn to this one recently.
This is in the shade Rose & Shine by Soap and Glory and is a very natural looking gloss that also looks very sophisticated. It's not shimmery or glittery at all, and most importantly it's not sticky!

Face

If you read my recent empties post then you will know that at the beginning of the month I used up my L'Oreal primer and my Collection concealer. To replace those, I've been using the B.Prepared Primer and the NYX HD Concealer. Apart from the writing on the NYX packaging rubbing off, I have been obsessed with both of these products! The primer makes my foundation look flawless, and the concealer is possibly my new favourite.
Another favourite product of mine has been the Rosie For Autograph highlighter. It is such a beautiful, natural looking highlight and I am completely in love with it.

Again if you've read my empties post you will have noticed that I used up my Rimmel powder, which has meant that I've gone back to using my all time favourite B. Powder! In my opinion, it's the best cruelty free powder out there. Another continuous favourite has been the Make Up Revolution Contour Palette. It also feautured in my Battle of the Budget Contour Palettes post, and won!

Eye Shadow

Now, you're probably thinking that these two palettes look a total mess, and I agree, they do. However, they've been my go to palettes literally all month and they work so well for my every day make up. Both of the palettes are Z Palettes.  The black palette on the left consists of Make Up Revolution shadows, a random MUA shadow and KIKO single eye shadows. The one on the right contains all Make Up Geek shadows and the smaller ones are from a MUA palette.
They may not be the prettiest palettes to look at but they certainly are very convenient!
