I'm always on the lookout for affordable, cruelty free contour palettes to try out, so I went into my local Boots and picked up this NYX Contour Palette. I've wanted to get this for a while but for some reason I've always held back from buying it online. Being able to see it actually in person confirmed that yes it was definitely worth spending £18 on!
It's of course more expensive than your average drugstore contour palette, for example the Make Up Revolution palette is only £8. So if you wanted a more budget friendly contour palette then I would definitely recommend the Make Up Revolution one instead. They are very similar in terms of shades, pigmentation and blend-ability.
The product itself is quite large so it takes up a fair bit of room, but also has the added bonus of a clear lid so you can easily see the shades. NYX have also made this palette re-fill friendly, so when you do run out you can easily pop the shade out and replace it. Although I'm not sure where you can buy the re-fills from in the UK....
The above swatches show the 'highlight' shades, and as you can see they are very light. If you have pale skin like myself then this is great as it can sometimes be difficult to find a highlight shade light enough for under the eyes etc.
The frosted highlighter looks beautiful on and is very pigmented without looking too unnatural. I don't think I'll get too much use out of the 'banana' coloured shades though.
The four contour shades are very pigmented and blend really well. I don't think I'll get much use of the darker shade on the far right and the warmer shade on the left, but the two shades in the middle work really well for my skin tone!
The video below shows me using this palette for the first time! Since then I have of course used it more, but I still feel first impressions are important :)
Wow this palette looks really cute! I saw it in boots the other day but didn't get it unfortunately! However I'm tempted to get it now, especially for the highlight as I'm very pale too!
ReplyDeleteI also have a NYX related post, it would mean a lot if you checked it out as I really love your blog!

Thanks! I really want to try out some of Sleek's products but the most popular ones are always sold out!
DeleteGlad you posted a tutorial to go along with the description you posted. But the only thing that will make me buy it would be when a brown girl uses it.
